Connor Jaramillo

Brahmagupta (598 – 668 CE) was an Indian mathematician and astronomer renowned for his pioneering contributions to various fields. Serving as the head of the astronomical observatory in Ujjain, India, he made significant contributions to the field of astronomy. Despite this, Brahmagupta is widely known today for his contributions to algebra, trigonometry, geometry, and algorithmics. He was the first to write about the concept of zero as a number and to explore arithmetic with negative numbers, two accomplishments which were instrumental in the advancement of mathematics into how we know it today. This presentation takes a deeper dive into the life of Brahmagupta, his accomplishments, and his most famous text, Brahmasphutasiddhanta.
