Karen Uhlenbeck: Life and Mathematic Contributions

This project is about the life and mathematic accomplishments of Karen Uhlenbeck, a famous mathematician. Here we will look at Uhlenbeck’s accomplishments and how she overcame the obstacles facing a woman pursuing a career in mathematics in the 1900’s. We will also consider her contributions to geometric analysis and the recognition she received.

  • Lauren Guthrie is from Ware Shoals, SC and graduated from Ware Shoals High School. She is currently a sophomore at Lander University majoring in secondary mathematics education to become a high school math teacher. Lauren’s biggest accomplishment is that she is a Lander Teaching Fellow where she serves on several committees and assumes leadership roles.
