Attachment Styles & Violence
Morgan Cook
South Carolina is no stranger to domestic violence with one of the highest rates of domestic violence in the United States. It has been found that a person's childhood could relate to future domestic violence. There are many factors that play a part in this, including childhood trauma, caregivers, experiences, coping skills, and communication skills which all affect a person's attachment style. Safety and security are two important things in healthy relationships, just as they are extremely important for a child to feel with their caregivers. If certain childhood emotional needs are not met, it could carry over into adulthood. This literature review provides an explanation of John Bowlby's attachment theory, types of attachment styles, and causes of attachment styles.
