The Effects of Self-Regulation

Avery Lucas

This study is motivated to find out whether there is a connection between self-regulation in regards to religion, and even a possible link to videogames. Self-regulation focuses more on the individual verses self, which builds independence. Using the The Self-Regulation Questionnaire (SRQ) survey (Aubrey, Brown, & Miller, 1994) and the Christian Religious Internalization Scale (CRIS) survey (Hill, & Hood, 1999), this project would seek out those connections. Results can be analyzed by applying Gottfredson and Hirschi’s Self-Control Theory, which states self-control influences people’s tendency to avoid criminal behavior. The results of this study could encourage people to look into the similarities between video game self-regulation and religious self-regulation.

  • Avery Lucas graduated from Wando High School in Charleston, South Carolina and is now a senior at Lander University with a major in criminology. He hopes to become a police officer for Charleston County Police Department.
