Teacher Alert

Joseph Clark, Rolland Muzeya, Joshua Hagan, Dillon Hassing

Public educators are often faced with contentious and potentially dangerous situations in their classrooms. Distressed students threaten, curse, and even brandish weapons at teachers. This is something that happens in classrooms of all student ages, even elementary schools. Teachers are often unable to access traditional communication methods such as cellphones or intercom buttons to request assistance during these situations because the teacher can't take their attention off the student for even a moment. In this project, we implement a proof-of-concept device for teachers to be able to use to call for help when they are in distress and cannot access their phone. This device will utilize the ESP32 MCU and the Twilio API to send text messages to school administrators’ phones. We also implement a web application that will allow the updating of these schedules, registering devices, and data analysis for administrators. This contributes a unique system allowing educators to call for help while maintaining their focus on a contentious situation.
