Mental health services for healthcare workers who are working through public health emergencies are few and far between. Healthcare workers across all placements within the field recognize that there is a lack of services available to them to assist them through higher times of need, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. These times of public health emergency not only add extra stress to healthcare workers, but also put them at higher risk of PTSD symptoms and accelerate burnout. Because of these mental health risks, there is a need for reform in mental health services for healthcare workers. This proposal for policy outlines changes to be made in this area, as well as means of evaluating the effectiveness of these changes.
