Can Too Much Screen Time Have An Affect On Early Childhood Children

Ji’Ne Arnold

Children at a preschool range from the ages of 2-6, and many of these children come to school too tired to learn. This tiredness is caused by too much screen time at home. On average a child spends about 7 and a half hours on electronics (CDC.gov). One of the reasons behind parents giving an excessive amount of screen time is to have more “alone” time. Some parents believe electronics are a good tool for behavior management. Therefore, these parents use electronics as a reward. While the average time spent on electronics is about 7.5 hours, it is recommended that screen time should not exceed over 2 hours a day. Instead, parents should increase their children’s outside time. This research poster examines research discussing how early childhood-aged children are affected by excessive screen time. It will assess how screen time can affect a child mentally and physically.
