American Sign Language Interpreter
Matthew Bailey
American Sign Language (ASL) is a form of communication used between those affected with hearing loss and those with whom they communicate. This causes a major disconnect between those who sign and those who don’t, making communication between the hearing impaired and those who don’t know ASL. The importance of learning ASL in this ever-changing world is becoming greater; with ever-increasing importance of this issue, our team is going to create an ASL character detection model to detect ASL characters and turn them into plain-text English for further usage.
Matthew Bailey is attending Lander University with a major in computer information systems (network and software development emphasis) with a minor in cybersecurity and data science. Previously, he worked on in-house scripts that have been used in the ITS Department and in other businesses. After graduation, Matthew plans to enter the software development field, and continue studies in machine learning.
